Resumo
This work aimed to investigate the use of active teaching methodologies for students with autism spectrum disorder, who attend regular schools in the final years of elementary school in the city of Arraial do Cabo in Rio de Janeiro. Twenty-two teachers working in public schools participated in this research. The methodology used to collect the data was the semi-structured questionnaire prepared on the virtual platform Google Forms. The results indicate that active methodologies can be effective for students with autism spectrum disorder in public schools, as they provide a more participatory and practical approach to the teaching-learning process. In addition to offering more autonomy and encouraging student protagonism, active methodologies can also help students with autism spectrum disorder to develop social and communication skills, in addition to respecting individual differences. However, it is necessary to invest in continued training for these professionals so that they can work on building new teaching knowledge and significant pedagogical practices.
